The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) operates as a governmental academic establishment governed by the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Circular No. 4, series 1997, with its Implementing Rules and Regularions (also referred to as the Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997). PUP, a prestigious educational institution on a national level, is the place for a multicultural community.

The governance of PUP is overseen by the Board of Regents, tasked with policymaking duties aimed at advancing the University's mission and initiatives as mandated by RA 8292, under the auspices of the Commission on Higher Education. An appointed President leads the University in accordance with RA 8292, supported by an Executive Vice President, as well as Vice Presidents overseeing Academic Affairs, Student Services, Administration, Research, Extension and Development, and Finance.

Celebrating its 120th anniversary, PUP maintains its primary campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila, alongside 22 other campuses spread across the Philippines. With an enrollment of 70,000 students, PUP stands as the largest state university in the country.
